Marine Service Engineer – Permanent – West Sussex – £Competitive + Benefits

Marine Service Engineer required for an internationally renowned supplier of waterjet propulsion systems to a wide range of high-speed work and Patrol boats, Fast ferries, Offshore crew boats, Fire boats, Fishing vessels, Recreational and Military craft.

The service engineer role is primarily responsible for mechanical technical support to all customers, distributors and service agents encompassing the UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa. Although the role is biased towards mechanical engineering there will also be a requirement to support the Electronics control systems, it is therefore seen as a dual role. The support will include scheduled servicing and maintenance as well as emergency breakdown cover, mechanical and electronic technical enquiries and training requirements. Extensive travelling will be required and in some instances at short notice within the region of responsibility, this may also include out of region travel requests from time to time. A high level of knowledge and experience is required for the waterjet range including hydraulics and mechanical controls.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing mechanical and electronic technical and service support
• Provide both on site and remote technical support.
• Advise customers as required in line with the product manual and jet operating procedures.
• Carry out vessel commissioning for electronic systems
• Fault finding activity required as appropriate
• Provide training for range of waterjets using PowerPoint documents and hands on training sessions. Delivered at UK facility and customer’s site as required.
• Include hydraulics and mechanical controls
• Provide inspection reports for waterjet returns
• Detail the refurbishment requirements with recommended parts replacement and costs
• Complete jet refurbishments in a timely manner on customer acceptance and approval.
• Ensure that all Health and Safety practices are in place for the workshop
• Ensure that the equipment and tools are in full and safe working order
• Ensure that appropriate PPE is used in the workshop

Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

• A Recognised engineering apprenticeship or similar qualification.
• 3 – 5 years’ engineering experience gained working within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in PPM and fault finding on hydraulics and pneumatics systems on modern machinery and equipment.
• Ability to read electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic drawings and circuit diagrams, mechanical fitting, electrical fitting, low voltage PLC and PCB panels.
• Using computer systems.

Key attributes: Responsive, customer focused, mechanically competent; electronic skills and experience. Possess, excellent time management skills, excellent communication skills including visit report writing, proactive and flexible.
