SMS & Emergency Planning Officer – Permanent – Kent – Competitive package

A rare opportunity has arisen to join an expanding Marine Compliance team providing specialist services at one of the UK’s premier ports.

The successful candidate will play a key role in safeguarding the river and planning the port’s emergency response to marine incidents.

This is a varied role in which you will contribute significantly to the ongoing development and maintenance of an effective safety management system and supporting regulatory framework whilst providing statistical analysis and reports to senior management.

The post also includes marine emergency planning which will see you planning and executing emergency exercises, representing the port at external forums and events and liaising with key internal and external stakeholders on the development of the ports marine emergency plan.

Experience Required:

  • Ideally hold a STCW (OOW Unlimited) Certificate of Competency or equivalent
  • Have relevant management experience in the marine and ports industry, including in particular, navigational safety management, risk assessment, training and emergency management.
  • You should be confident with the ability to hold a room and engage with colleagues at all levels of the business.
  • Good writing skills and an ability to work effectively under pressure are essential.
