VTS Officer (Ports) – Permanent – Dover, Kent – Competitive package

The purpose of this role is ensure the safety of navigation and the protection of the environment within the limits of the port.

Responsibilities include:

  • To monitor and regulate movement of all vessels within the port
  • The allocation of berths to vessels entering or manoeuvring within the port
  • Controlling and co-ordinating the movements of the Harbour Patrol Launch to facilitate the safe movement of small craft inside and outside the Harbour.
  • To organise provision of towage services in liaison with Tugs & Dredger Section in accordance with customers requirements
  • The correct operation of VTS computer network, compilation and storage of its database files, movements log, information, incident and weather files and the port’s email system.
  • Initiation of Port Emergency Procedures as and when required in line with DHB Emergency Procedures, Incident Control.
  • Monitor pollution events and initiate first line response to any pollution event in conjunction with Duty Port Manager in accordance with the Port Pollution Control Plans.

Experience Required:

  • STCW Officer of the watch license or higher
  • Previous experience as a VTS Operator (Highly desirable)
  • At least 5 GCSE’s including English & Maths
  • Computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook, Sharepoint etc)
  • GMDSS or VHF Operators certificate (desirable)
  • The role is shift work so you must be flexible with working hours
  • Must have right to live and work in the UK
