Stream Marine Training are excited to be offering Engineer Officer Cadetships within the Merchant Navy, starting in January and August 2020.

As a qualified Engineer Officer, you will operate and maintain the mechanical systems on a variety of different vessels. This includes the machinery such as engines, ventilation systems, navigation and communications equipment, deck fittings like cranes, hoists and landing craft.
You'll be ranked according to your experience and qualifications and with each grade comes more responsibilities. As an Officer Cadet you will work your way up the levels, once qualified. A typical rank structure is:
Chief Engineer – overall authority for planning engineering tasks and delegating them to staff
Second Engineer –day-to-day supervision of the ship's engineering team
Third Engineer – assisting the Second Engineer and looking after the mechanical systems and machinery
Junior/Fourth Engineer – carrying out general machinery maintenance
This cadetship allows you fully paid study towards your first Certificate of Competency, that will allow you to work as an Engineer Officer on a variety of vessels from cruise ships, tankers, passenger ferries and offshore vessels.
You will studying at the state of the art City of Glasgow College, which provides an excellent standard of officer training at HNC or SPD level, utilising state of the art simulation equipment and engineering workshops to ensure that courses are delivered to a high standard.
To allow entry onto the course, you will be required to meet the following criteria:
- Hold a minimum of four Standard Grades / National 5's which must include Maths, English, a Science plus one other.
- Hold a valid UK/EU Passport
- Have been normally resident within the UK for the last 36 months
The course is a sandwich course and you will spend two phases at sea on your company's vessels to allow you to have hands on practical experience.
All tuition fees are paid by your sponsoring company and you will also receive a wage both at sea and when at college, which is £175 per week when at college and £120 a week when at sea.
