Financial Controller (Cruise Ship) - $ Competitive salary per month on board

POSITION SUMMARY
The Financial Controller leads the ship in all areas of fiscal responsibility and procedural compliance of the Ship's Financial Operation, focusing on the effective and accurate exchange of financial information between Shipboard, Shore side Accounting and Finance Administration; maintains the Company’s integrity of all shipboard accounting procedures relating to the complete payroll process, cash payments, revenue reporting, expenditure reporting, and shipboard budgets. 
The Financial Controller continually strives to exceed hospitality industry standards in the delivery of World Class service, while ensuring complete Guest and Team satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Each employee behaves in a professional and courteous manner at all times. This consists of physical and verbal interactions with guests or fellow shipboard employees and/or in the presence of guest contact and crew areas.
  • Fully accountable for the accurate accounting and dispersal of all gratuity payments to crew. Maintains the integrity of the gratuity liability account for all areas and divisions. Guides, educates and offers comprehensive training pertaining to gratuity reconciliation to all ships Managers. 
  • Understands and adheres to all financial policies, procedures, and guidelines. Ensures that all members of the Financial Operations Team and Guest Services Officers are in full compliance with all financial controls by conducting ongoing training and implementing notification of updates.
  • Actively prepares and reviews yearly budgets for the Financial Operations Division. Strives to identify operational efficiencies within the Division’s cost area.
  • Manages a team that is strong in delivering World Class Service to guests and crew. Motivates, coaches, trains, evaluates and tracks development on an individual and team basis in order to optimize positive crew and guest experiences. Confers with the Guest Services Manager to review guest comments to implement revisions and improvements to any relevant administrative processes.
  • Performs shipboard financial and Inventory audits to ensure compliance with Company procedures and policies. Provides suggestions to Audit & Advisory Services, based on observations during audits. 
  • Accountable for cash management within the Financial Operations Division, specifically the Financial Controller’s safe, Crew Payroll Manager, 2nd Purser Payroll and 2nd Purser Administration floats as well as the Foreign Exchange program when utilized. Responsible for the timely audit of all floats issued. Advises Hotel Director, Shipboard Financial Operations and Accounting in the event of any discrepancies. Proactive in finding solutions to prevent any financial loss to the Company.
  • Directs the overall Financial Operations function onboard the ship. Oversees the assignment of duties, responsibilities and workstations to direct reports. Observes and evaluates direct reports and work procedures to ensure quality standards and service are met.
  • Oversees, plans, and administers Financial Operations’ schedule in conjunction with the HR shore side support group. Actively monitors the
    scheduling needs of the Financial Operations’ division.
  • Enhances department and company reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of four years managerial experience in Front of House/Financial/Operational positions within the hospitality industry or financial institution preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a closely-knit team.
  • Working knowledge of US cash handling procedures & foreign exchange required.
  • Excellent ability to communicate diplomatically with Managers, shipboard and shore side employees to resolve problems and negotiate amicable resolution to challenging issues.
  • Ability to manage, focus, direct and encourage a positive, dynamic, diverse financial operation by navigating through a changing work environment. Able to utilize and administer the disciplinary action process through coaching and counseling to improve performance or terminate employment.
  • Should possess the ability to organize and establish timelines for completion of tasks within the division, considering changes in itineraries, guest demographics and accounting deadlines.
  • Demonstrates aptitude for the financial aspects of the overall Ship’s operation, including the successful identification of expense reduction
    through cost control.
  • Should harbor a flexible outlook towards placement throughout the fleet, considering changing fleet-wide operational manning needs.
  • Working knowledge of computers, Internet access, and the ability to navigate within a variety of software packages such as Microsoft Office.
  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, business administration, Accounting or related field from an accredited college or university or the international equivalent preferred.

Language Requirements:

Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests. Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, Supervisors and co-workers.
