Principal Naval Architect (Small Craft) – Permanent – Liverpool – £Competitive
Our client is one of the world’s leading commercial & military boat builders, who specialise in craft designs and support services that offer innovative high-tech solutions across diverse marine sectors, including – Military, law Enforcement, Oil and Gas, and Rescue Organizations’.
Working as part of a multi discipline Design and Engineering team the Principle Naval Architect will lead on the design & development of highspeed craft from concept through to delivery.

Experience

  • Degree Qualified MSc, BSc in Naval Architecture,
  • Professionally Registered CEng or on the pathway to achieving.
  • Commercial & Military Small craft
  • Composite and aluminium design & construction techniques
  • Structural calculation & analysis
  • In depth knowledge on rules and regulations and international design codes and standards
  • Experienced in dealing with both internal and external customers.
  • Proficient with 2D/3D CAD software and Naval Architecture software, ideally SolidWorks and Maxsurf Suite

Responsibilities

  • Providing direct support for group’s proposal, programme & project management- being pro-active in addressing technical and programme management issues – including supporting the bidding for, and conduct of, new & emerging work.
  • Hands-on involvement in design activities, and provision of technical guidance at all levels in the solution of a variety of complex design problems.
  • Ensuring that requirements are met, and deliverables are achieved to time & budget.
  • Support the Engineering office manager in management of engineers through bidding, design development, integration, and production support work – ensuring that outputs are technically complete, safe, and comply with engineering governance, standards & processes.
  • Support the bid process in responding to ITTs; assessing the impact to the Naval Architecture Group, technical work scopes, schedule and resource.
  • Manage and deliver Group Naval Architecture emergent work scope.
  • Interfacing with external design regulatory authorities and IACS Societies to co-ordinate and progress certification and approval requirements.
  • Provision of Naval Architecture technical support to shipyard activities, managing and responding to technical queries in a timely manner.
  • Determination of hydrostatic and hydrodynamic characteristics of vessels, intact & damage stability analysis, stability assessment of vessels subject to significant modification, seakeeping/performance calculations, structural design, new vessel development.
  • Coordination of all group test and trials, from tank testing to on water.
  • Selection & recruitment of Design and Naval Architecture staff
