Systems Design Engineer (Yacht) – Permanent – Southampton – £35,000-£40,000

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established luxury yacht manufacturer based from it’s new design studio in Southampton. The Systems Design Engineer will help, develop and improve the scope of design engineering within the department, moving the yacht designs in to a new era. You are to help produce detailed engineering plans and calculations for production within all fields of yacht design.

Job Requirements / Responsibilities;

• Working with a team of designers / naval architects to optimize the overall design in performance and build efficiency.
• Be able to produce drawings to full production level, including detailed technical drawings, to enable the production yards and external contractors to efficiently produce the yacht and its components.
• Have a clear understanding of marine systems used throughout yachts, looking at developments within the marine sector helping develop newer technology integration throughout the range.
• Tasks will include, concept design of furniture, GRP mouldings and general outfitting parts. Produce detailed manufacturing drawings for fabrication / composite design / tooling etc
• Have a clear of understanding of marine standards including RCD, MCA, IMO, classification and certifying authorities’ requirements, including an understanding of structural calculations from both first principles and class requirements.
• Communicate directly with concept designers/stylists to make the concept design suitable for our production line.

Skills and Abilities;

• Degree level qualification essential.
• Design and practical experience in the yachting sector.
• Comprehensive knowledge of yacht production techniques and processes.
• Able to work with 2D and 3D CAD software.
