 WORKBOAT - MARINE ENGINEER

Primary Location: Kitimat, British Columbia
Employee Status: Contract / Rotational

Position Outline:

The Master is responsible for the vessel and authorized to take any action, which may be considered necessary for the safety of the vessel and / or the prevention of marine pollution. However, where the above does not apply, the Master cannot overrule the company’s policies and associated requirements / commitments without a properly authorised concession.

The Master is to be an ambassador for Bridgemans and our safety management system in their personal conduct and the conduct of the crew.

Bridgemans Marine Transport (a division of Bridgemans Services Group) has exciting new employment opportunities for qualified Marine Personnel on projects throughout Western Canada. Bridgemans’ fleet is expanding with new vessels unique to Canada and therefore seek the following:

ENGINEER

Preferred Class 4 Engineer but will consider SVMO if they have extensive experience with:

  • Anchor handling
  • Marine construction
  • Marine crane operating
  • Towing/barge moving

Summary of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Operations Manager responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Safe and efficient operation of the vessel and the safety, health and welfare of all crew and passengers on board
  • Cargo operation
  • Navigation
  • Crew Management
  • Compliance with Transport Canada policies, local laws and project regulations
  • Maintaining ship’s certificates and documentation
  • Compliance with local project rules as issued by the client
  • Vessel inventory
  • Accident / incident / injury / illness reporting
  • Sending vessel daily reports and monthly reports
  • Ensuring all machinery is operable
  • Reporting defects
  • Oversight and assistance with day to day general maintenance

Physical Aspects of Position (includes but are not limited to):

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift
  • Frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
  • Climbing in and out of vessels, walking on floating pontoons and standing on a vessel in a seaway
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Safety oriented and willing and able to work in a multi-cultural environment

Schedule:

The above positions are based on a 30/30 rotational schedule located in Kitimat British Columbia. If you are not local or willing to relocate to the area, travel and accommodation will be provided for the duration of the shift.
