Deputy Marine Pilotage Manager (Ports) – Kent – Permanent – Excellent Package

A leading Port Operator is currently recruiting for a Deputy Marine Pilotage Manager to join the operation in Kent.

Reporting to the Marine Pilotage Manager (MPM), this position will oversee the day to day operational and training management of pilots and provide support to the MPM.

Key responsibilities of the role will include;

  • Managing the day-to-day working of the Ship Manoeuvring Simulator for internal/external training and external commercial work including Pilot training and the navigational verification of construction projects within the Port.
  • Accountability for all matters concerning pilotage policy and strategic planning and implementation (including continual review and update)
  • Participating in the assessment and examination of Pilots to ensure satisfactory levels of competency.
  • Managing both the recruitment and training of new pilots and training and development of existing pilots.
  • Helping to develop strategies to achieve future economies and greater efficiencies in the delivery of Pilotage and thus reduce the cost of Port usage.
  • Any other duties required by Management for the efficient and safe running of the department.

The successful candidate will hold a STCW II/2 (Masters Unlimited) Certificate of Competency or equivalent, have sailed as a Master Marine on Deep Sea Vessels and have shore-based experience.

Marine pilotage experience is highly desirable.

You will also have previous experience within a similar position or a relevant management role within the Marine and Ports industry and have operational and budgetary responsibilities for a complex 24/7 operation.

Excellent communication skills, strong decision making skills and the ability to work under pressure are also essential requirements.

Language Requirements

Good knowledge of the English language is required.
