Job description

Multi-discipline position for competent Rigger/ Deck Operative on a 2/3 Rotation.

A competent Rigger should be an operative who has achieved NVQ/OPITO by assessments and can provide supporting evidence; and should carry out all rigging requirements incorporating and inspection of all necessary rigging plant and equipment in compliance of LOLER regulations. It is their responsibility to ensure that plant and equipment is maintained on a regular and daily basis throughout the workscope duration, being a key member as part of the team to deliver a high standard of work on project completion.

This position also requires the individual to assist with platform Helideck operations, as a Helideck Team Member as part of the Helideck crew under the supervision of the Helideck Landing Officer.

Minimum Task Achievement Requirements:

  • Rigging plan

  • Transfer of loads

Understanding and knowledge:

  • Health & Safety at work etc. Act 1974
  • Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992
  • Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER)
  • Crane hand & radio signals
  • Slinging & banking
  • COSSH awareness

Minimum Training Requirements

  • OPITO Banksman Slinging Competency Stage 3
  • OPITO Rigging Competency Stage 3
  • Experience working under supervision of a competent Rigger/instructor
  • Clients permit system
  • Health/Safety and Environmental Risk Assessment – awareness
  • Work at height regulations – awareness
  • Manual Handling
  • Knowledge of the maintenance & inspection of rigging equipment

Operatives Commitment To Safety Duties:

  • Be actively involved and contribute to completing an onsite Task Based Risk Assessment which identifies additional risks or hazards involved in the workscope prior to work commencing.
  • Ensuring they are working under the correct valid permits and the associated paper work is in place prior to work commencing.
  • Be actively involved in the onsite daily tool box talk confirm that he understands what the workscope involves and be aware if there any changes to the work or worksite.
  • Ensure all equipment has been fully safety checked, function test of plant equipment prior to use.
  • As a minimum do  not start  work  until satisfied all of the above is in place
  • If in doubt use Stop Work Authority

Self-motivated and able to work with the minimum of supervision being 100% committed to team involvement, information sharing and mutual support.  Work with a heightened awareness of HSEQ.  Further requirements are pride in his own work, being open minded, the ability to over come problems and deliver solutions’ that may occur with plant and equipment
