Mechanical Design Engineer – Telford – Permanent – £40,000 pa

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To produce and assist in the production of practical new designs to tight timescales in a supportive team environment
  • Generation of documentation within the production design office including, but not limited to, concept through to detailed manufacturing drawings & parts lists, technical qualifications and project supportive documentation to ensure internal and external deadlines are achieved
  • Produce conceptual designs from functional specifications
  • Layout design of mechanical / hydraulic machinery / electrical systems and sub systems
  • To work in multi-discipline project teams on specific aspects of equipment design.
  • Undertake component stress calculations and compile documented calculation packages for third party verification in order to comply varying international codes and standards.
  • Produce / assist with equipment test specifications for use in house and at site.
  • Liaison with other delivery team members to ensure design specifications are met within budget requirements
  • Assistance to other departments notably Purchasing, Production, Project Management and Quality Assurance
  • Contribution to the completion and implementation of concessions and alterations / amendments to drawings.
  • Bid support, travel for technical input, customer liaison, input to sales proposals.
  • Participation in, and contribution to, design reviews, contract reviews and other project-related activities
  • Attendance at technical meetings (UK and Overseas)

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Innovative mechanical background, a passion for engineering excellence with ideally a rounded background in the marine handling systems / lifting appliance industry. The result is a varied job with varying degrees of responsibility, differing types of tasks ranging from initial design to final sign off at SAT, supporting project management and/or customer visits but with practical design remaining central to the job

The successful candidate will:

  • Have experience in structural steel fabrication design
  • Be effective in carrying out detailed structural strength calculations for both structural and mechanical components
  • Display a high degree of computing literacy on engineering design packages

The following is also desirable:

  • BEng (Hons) Design Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards chartered status
  • Familiar and confident with 3-D structural analysis
  • Competent in Basic 3-D FEA techniques
