Marine Investigator – (Flag State Registry) – London – Salary up to £60,000

A rare opportunity has arisen for a Marine Investigator to join a leading Flag State Registry in London.

Due to expansion, my progressive client is seeking a Master Mariner with prior Marine Investigation experience to join their small but expanding team.  The chosen candidate will be part of a team that is really driving change in terms of safety standards in the industry.

The Marine Investigator will engage with Ship Operators, Member State Agencies and Ship Owners and will collect, analyse and interpret evidence from marine accidents to then accurately produce succinct recommendations and well-defined conclusions.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Provide technical expertise to marine safety investigations and the international marine casualty investigation community to improve marine safety globally.
  • Assist with the collection and analysis of evidence obtained from marine casualties and incidents.
  • Prepare accurate, thorough and clearly written reports with well-founded analysis and conclusions that explain the circumstances and causes of accidents and serious incidents without apportioning blame or liability.
  • Proactively identify safety issues and lessons learned to improve safety within the fleet.
  • Deliver presentations on technical issues to external forums as required.
  • Represent the Authority and Maritime Investigations Department at meetings as required.
  • Prepare briefing papers for the Authority and other national agencies.

The chosen candidate will benefit from a generous pension scheme, private medical insurance and 25 days annual leave.  Comprehensive market leading training may also be offered after a 6 month probation period.

The official language of The Bahamas is English and candidates must be able to demonstrate oral and written fluency.

The BMA will only consider candidates who have a permanent right to work in the UK.
