Deputy Harbour Master / Pilot – Permanent – South Coast, UK

This is an excellent opportunity to move into a shore based role with a UK Harbour Authority.

The purpose of this role is to assist the Harbour Master in all aspects of work and to deputise for him on all occasions during his absence.

Responsibilities include:

  • Organising and regulating the harbour in all aspects concerned with the port marine safety code
  • Manage statutory safety meetings, training and exercises in line with the Port Marine Safety Code requirements
  • Monitor health and safety at all sites and advise site managers on best practice
  • Advising visiting ships on all aspects of port security and ensuring compliance with the ISPS code
  • Administer all aspects of pilotage with the harbour including liaison with adjacent harbour authorities
  • Be ‘on call’ for agreed periods in order to respond accordingly to any harbour emergency
  • Manage emergency response training and exercises
  • Assist in the management of harbour authority budgets, annual repair and capital projects

Experience Required:

  • Ideally hold a Chief Mate COC or above
  • Similar experience ashore in a port / harbour environment (preferred)
  • Sailing experience on coastal vessels (preferred)
