Job description

To build, lead, provide subject matter technical management, mentoring support and direction of the Plant Inspection unit within STORK. This will involve shaping a project idea, within a delivery contract or assessing the competence of outsourced inspectors working directly for STORK’s clients. The position, technically, is responsible for the application of visual, non-intrusive and NDT based techniques for assessing, recording and reporting the condition of fixed plant and equipment (onshore and offshore). This role will ensure that all operations in their area of authority are completed in line with legislation, accreditations, industry standards and Company procedure.

Undertakes reasonable ad-hoc or routine duties as directed by line manager.
 
Tasks And Responsibilities As Plant Inspection Manager:

Shape, Manage and Deliver multiple opportunities and their project outcomes

  • Overall responsibility for the shaping of Inspection projects and their Technical delivery.
  • Confers with Technical team resources, internal departments and client personnel to define, develop and comply with project specifications and procedures.
  • Responsible for the allocation of competent technical resources to ‘best-fit’ project tasks.
  • Interacts with client in regard to specification change and scope.
  • Responsible for delivering projects within agreed cost and specification.
  • Promote potential integrated services to client community.
  • Review quotes and proposals as contained within potential contracts and give approval to bids within company financial protocols.
  • Liaise with business development personnel to support prospecting and technical aspects with potential new clients.
  • Responsible for client liaison and communications that allow for additional project tendering and growth.

 
Responsible for Plant Inspection Department’s Technical Ability

  • Responsibility for preparation and maintenance of method statements, report formats, tools and toolkits
  • Responsible for the development of innovative execution work-flow and technology-based solutions to enhance productivity, accuracy and cost reduction.
  • Liaison with the NDT technical competent personnel to ensure supporting NDT technical delivery.
  • Responsible for plant inspection procedures and associated UKAS management system.
  • Responsible for plant inspector training programmes / competency requirements.
  • Responsible for a range of regulatory documentation and accredited certification.
  • Supports Project Managers technically with ongoing projects.

 
Grow the Skills, Capabilities and Potential Department Technical Resources

  • Responsibility for selection, management, competence and development of STORK’s Offshore Inspection Engineers (OIEs), plant inspectors, field engineers, Integrity Corrective Action Team (ICAT) leaders and surveyors.
  • Responsible for allocating tasks to individual departmental technical resources that stretch, stimulate and develop plant inspection skills, experience and expertise.
  • Develops and implements policies, standards and procedures for the inspection team.
  • Supports appropriate professional learning and development via Training and Competency department and external training providers.
  • Supports the organisation’s appraisal methodologies (P&D) to professional development, employee performance and encourage employee retention.

Specific Requirements For Plant Inspection Manager:
 
HSEQ

  • Fully knowledgeable in the HSE related legislative requirements pertaining to their area of responsibility.
  • Fully knowledgeable in and conversant with all relevant risk management processes and HSEQ procedures.
  • Support continuous improvements within HSEQ, record and act on lessons learned.
  • Provide HSEQ related support with promotion and analysis of data such as Safety Observations, REACH scorecards, HAVS, TOFS feedback, incident investigation and health surveillance documents etc.

Technical

  • Ensure knowledge levels are maintained in current legislation, standards, techniques, best-practices and agendas of governing professional bodies.
  • Provide technical innovation, continuous improvement suggestions and technical assurance over work packs, risk assessments, investigations, reports, management of change and project reviews.
  • Provide specialist technical support to both onshore delivery, offshore delivery and directly to clients.
  • Interfacing, as necessary, with regulatory and independent verification bodies and participate in industry initiatives as required.
  • Maintain representation within external technical forums / memberships
  • Assists with UKAS Type Requirements.

 
Education

  • Degree level qualified or appropriate vocational qualifications to the highest level / Certificates in appropriate discipline (s).

Experience

  • Significant experience in leading the preparation and delivery of plant/structural inspection programs within a major accident hazard industry, offshore, at sea or onshore.
  • Significant experience in the survey, inspection planning, inspection, NDT and life extension of ageing assets.
  • Appreciation and understanding of fitness for service techniques, degradation, defect types, damage mechanisms and their severity.
  • A high understanding in the application of local and remote visual survey, non-intrusive inspection and NDT techniques, where these can be applied and their accuracy.
  • Level 3 plant inspection qualifications according to relevant industry standards.
  • Level 2 qualification in relevant PCN/ASNT NDT techniques.
  • Awareness and understanding of ISO 17020.
  • Ability to effectively lead a team and also to work on own initiative
  • Computer literacy and conversant in integrity management databases, survey software and techniques, and the Microsoft office platform.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, with an ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to forward plan and be receptive/adaptable to change.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • A clear and concise commitment to providing a quality service delivery standards, responsive to business demands.
