Project Manager – Ship Conservation – £40,000 to £46,000 – Portsmouth

This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in delivering a major programme of conservation works to HMS Victory: capital works are estimated at £35.1million over the next twelve years. The successful candidate will help shape the conservation approach to Victory, develop and deliver the procurement strategy for conservation works, and serve as client project manager.

HMS Victory is the sole surviving ship of the line from the age of sale, and served as Admiral Nelson’s flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar. She is a unique artefact of international importance. The successful candidate will play a central role in ensuring Victory is conserved for this and future generations.

Knowledge/Experience

  • Recognised Project Management qualification.
  • Knowledge of the professional skills and services, relevant to ship/building conservation, that are available through commissioning.
  • Knowledge of procurement process.
  • Project management in the heritage sector, including experience of large scale construction projects.
  • Proven ability to build and lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience of tendering, appointing and directing multiple consultants.
  • Demonstrable experience of anticipating, managing and solving risks and issues.
  • Experience of financial management and budget preparation of comparable scale.
