Marine Surveyor -Southampton – Permanent – £Competitive

The Company

Our client has been trading since 1985 providing independent technical services to the yachting industry. As well as pre-purchase condition surveys, our services also include, new construction supervision, refit technical supervision, plan appraisals, specification writing, valuations, expert witness work, and arbitration.

The Role

The suitable candidate will be employed as a marine surveyor. Roles and tasks undertaken will be varied and potentially will include the following:

  • Condition surveys of yachts below and above 24 metres in length
  • Valuation appraisals of yachts
  • New construction supervision of yachts
  • Expert witness work
  • Owners technical representatives
  • Independent technical expert work
  • Ad hoc consultancy

The Person:

  • Education to at least degree level in naval architecture or marine engineering, alternatively, other suitable equivalent professional qualifications, coupled with appropriate, experience. such as chief engineers, Master Mariners, or Flag/Class Surveyors.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the marine industry, preferably as an engineer or surveyor
  • Ideally, experience, and knowledge of the superyacht industry (though whilst preferable, is not essential)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A sense of professional diplomacy, when necessary
  • Self-motivation, and the ability to work on your own, and part of a team
  • Willingness to travel internationally, sometimes at short notice, and sometimes for protracted periods
  • Computer expertise and the ability to produce quality written reports is essential.
