Naval Architect (Submarines) – Fareham or Nailsworth – Permanent – Competitive Salary
A leading name in the Marine Engineering Consultancy market is currently looking for an exceptional Naval Architect to specialise in Submarine design. This role could be based either at the head office in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, or at a new office in Fareham, Hampshire.
The company requires a self-starter in this role who can work closely with the company’s consultants and executive management to deliver excellence in projects to demonstrable quality and time objectives. Naval Architects within the company work on several interesting and challenging projects, both in the UK and worldwide, working closely with our clients to ensure we deliver in excess of their expectations. The company are one of only two Recognised Organisations allowed to oversee inclining experiments on behalf of the UK Ministry of Defence.
Providing the following services such as; Concept design, Whole-ship and whole-boat design, block building methodology, Innovative engineering-led design with the ability to rapidly and accurately synthesise new designs and assess/optimise their performance, Seakeeping analysis and optimisation including stabiliser assessment and tailoring. Structural analysis including complex FEA and structural optimisation. Proposal of solutions for alterations and additions to new or older vessels. Due diligence for new owners taking on a ship, ensuring the ship is materially safe/suitable and assessing the steps necessary to bring the ship in line with good safety practice, Class and Flag requirements/legislation.
Experience / Qualifications Required:
- A degree in Naval Architecture or Ship Science with at least 6 years’ (for Senior) or 8 years’ (for Principal) post-graduate relevant experience.
- Be a member of RINA and achieved Chartered Engineer status.
- Have experience of working on submarines.
- Be capable of using Paramarine.
- Demonstrate good skills with a range of professional software tools including Seasafe, Strand 7, AutoCAD Inventor and Rhino.
- Demonstrate excellent word processing and IT skills, including knowledge of a range of software packages and comprehensive capabilities in Microsoft Office.
- Have a current UK security clearance or be capable of getting one.
