Job Description Onshore Inspection Engineer with Stork:
Understands technical or professional aspects of work and continually maintains technical knowledge. Ability to deploy discipline specific engineering and operational standards.
Understands Integrity objectives and applied inspection techniques employed to meet said objectives.
Management and supervision of discipline issues, direction to colleagues on cost, service, technology issues. Provide functional guidance to visiting inspection vendors or other subcontractors on discipline specific matters. Ensure that work is of a quality to meet company standards and is produced in a timely and cost effective manner.
Performs activity in some complex or non-routine contexts. Significant responsibility and autonomy – can oversee the work of others.
Degree Qualified. Chartered status is desirable. Category 2 as defined by UKAS RG2 logbook or equivalent.
Able to provide supervision for the technology used and processes required for the delivery of the integrity services. Able to provide supervision for the processes and the operation of the equipment and /or systems that are area of responsibility for delivery of integrity services.
Able to provide supervision for any defects which may occur during the use of the equipment which may result in a failure or deficiencies in the operation of the equipment. Able to provide supervision for the significance of deviations found with regarding to the normal use of the equipment, the operation of the processes. Awareness of Non Intrusive NDT Inspection techniques. Knowledgeable of the practical considerations of Standard NDT Techniques.
Tasks And Responsibilities As Onshore Inspection Engineer with:
Contract Delivery

  • Provide primary interface between onshore inspection and integrity engineering team.
  • Support NDT personnel and other inspection, integrity and corrosion sponsored contractors in the prioritisation and planning of work.
  • Interface with Offshore Inspection Engineer to provide clarification on NDT inspection techniques in order to meet integrity objectives.
  • Review inspection reports, isometrics, vessel general arrangements and P&ID drawings.
  • Manage and report on the status of all in progress inspection, integrity and corrosion monitoring activities on the installation.
  • Liaise with Offshore Inspection Engineer to maximise opportunistic inspection of vessels, plant and equipment at the request of the client.
  • Give technical advice in order to ensure ad-hoc inspections are completed and integrity of units are fully assessed.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of innovative NDT techniques.
  • Maintain assurance

Reporting & Compliance

  • Give input to the workpack process by donating relevant NDT techniques to meet integrity objectives.
  • Give input to periodical audits of NDT Inspection to ensure compliance to procedures.

People Management

  • Establish and monitor project team working methods.
  • Ensure that the personnel selected for the scope of work are trained, qualified and competent to carry out the task.
  • To advise projects on the training and competence assurance of the job.
  • To support the company to recruitment and development of a suitable and competent workforce.
  • Attend pre-project briefs

Specific Requirements For Onshore Inspection Engineer with:
 
Education
Essential:

  • Plant Inspector or API 570/510 (or working experience specific to include pressure vessel and piping inspection)
  • PCN Level II or equivalent in MPI, DPI, and UT (UT must be 3.1/3.2 Plate and Pipe)
  • Radiographic Interpretation (RI)
  • Experience of ‘in-service’ plant inspection and NDT in an offshore environment
  • Proven ability to work without supervision and to provide effective supervision to others

Desirable:

  • HNC/HND level in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Qualified and competent in all grades of ultrasonic weld inspection
  • PCN (or equivalent) Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS)

Experience
Essential:

  • Experience in inspection in a relevant process industry with the majority of the above experience elements. In particular, experience in the application of inspection tools and techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret commonly used engineering drawings and data sets used in support of inspection activities, e.g. piping isometrics, vessel general arrangements, piping and instrumentation diagrams, process flow diagrams, piping schedules.
  • Detailed knowledge of the uses and limitations of commonly applied non-destructive examination techniques applied in support, e.g. MPI, DPI, UT measurement, Rad techniques.
  • Working knowledge of the use and limitations of specialist NDE techniques applied in support of above water inspection and monitoring programmes, e.g. pulsed eddy current, thermography, time of flight diffraction, CHIME, etc.
  • Clear understanding of major discipline issues arising from oil and gas production systems. Awareness of materials and key degradation mechanisms associated with the deterioration of offshore production facilities.
  • Awareness of piping and vessel design codes, e.g. ASME VIII, PD5500, ASME B31.3.
  • Computer literate with proven ability to use common Microsoft Office packages.
  • Proven ability to work without supervision and to provide effective supervision to others.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and articulate inspection and corrosion issues at all levels within offshore organisation.
  • Ability to communicate fluently and effectively, in the English language, with peers, direct reports, sub-contract personnel and immediate management.

Desirable

  • Experience as an Offshore / Plant Inspection Engineer with an Oil or Petro-Chemical Background
  • Familiar with typical design codes and standards for offshore pressure systems and the application and use in fitness for service assessments
  • Working knowledge of key legislation and regulatory framework applicable to offshore regime with understanding of major accident hazards, performance standards, assurance and verification activities
  • Competent in the application of ‘un-engineered’ temporary repair techniques available for offshore process and utility piping and vessels systems, e.g. box clamps, composite repairs, etc
  • Awareness of paint coat specifications and associated applications
  • Familiar with typical corrosion monitoring equipment and associated practices and procedures for retrieval. Capable of performing download of Data Collection Units
  • Competent in maintenance management database systems
