The following are essential functions of the job but are not all-inclusive.
Perform all duties associated with the Chief Engineer position, particularly the Station Bill responsibilities and all aspects of passenger safety.
Know and adhere to the Company SMS (Safety Management System). Ensure that subordinate personnel do as well.
Participate in safety drills and training.
Respond as assigned to all vessel emergencies.
Supervise and mentor junior engineers and maintenance personnel.
Provide specific instruction and training to junior engineers and maintenance personnel to ensure they are proficient with vessel systems and operations.
Operation, monitoring and maintenance of all machinery and systems.
Troubleshoot and repair system failures.
Ensure all equipment is maintained in accordance with phased maintenance schedules and that discrepancies are corrected as soon as possible.
Ensure appropriate guidelines are established and followed for all tasks involving hazardous materials.
Immediately report all discrepancies that cannot be corrected to the Master (using a MSR – Maintenance Service Request).
Maintain engineering spaces, storage areas, and machinery to the highest standards of cleanliness.
Monitor levels of all tanks, and address as necessary.
Coordinate with vessel Master and Port Engineer regarding vessel fueling, watering and waste removal.
Inspect all areas of the vessel for environmental, safety and health deficiencies on a regular schedule. Report all deficiencies to vessel Master. Carry out corrective actions to the maximum extent possible.
Assist with all vessel operations.
Maintain complete and accurate engineering logs and vessel maintenance records.
Complete routine reports as directed.
Know and adhere to relevant laws and regulations pertaining to the operation and maintenance of the vessel.
Assist with the development of work orders, repair tasks and shipyard specifications.
Assist with the supervision of contractors when working onboard the vessel.
Present professional level of customer service and appearance to all, both internal and external.
Know and adhere to the contents of the Employee Handbook and adhere to those requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned by the vessel Master.
Work Experience Requirements
All applicants must have previous experience in working on ships and oil rigs.
Language Requirements
Good knowledge of the following languages is required: English, German, Japanese
