Job Description Asbestos Operative with Stork:

The position held within Storks Environmental + Decontamination division is to provide general and specialised support by having the underpinning knowledge and have the experience of the skills required to be able to work safely and effectively, as stated in the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR2012) and Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance.

Tasks And Responsibilities As Asbestos Operative:

  • Share responsibility to ensure that, the operation is carried out in full compliance with all relevant legislation pertaining to the removal, handling, transport and disposal of asbestos containing materials
  • Aware of the control limits and understands the requirement for Air monitoring including personal monitoring
  • Understands Decontamination procedures within the enclosure, airlocks (including bag locks), and hygiene units
  • Complies with procedures, controls and the preventative measures set out in the plan of work, method statement and risk assessment, and any other relevant Stork Limited procedure
  • Assist the Asbestos Supervisor in site setup
  • Comprehends Removal techniques and how they work including types of wet surfactant injection of sprayed Asbestos and lagging, spray wetting of Asbestos Insulation Board and Asbestos cement, wrap and cut and if relevant (glove bags).
  • Maintenance of control measures, including enclosures and negative pressure equipment, and the procedures for recording, reporting and correcting defects
  • The general procedures to be followed to deal with an emergency or accident, such as an uncontrolled release of asbestos dust into the workplace or break-out of a fire

Commitment To Safety Duties:

  • Recognises the dangers to health from Asbestos to himself and others.
  • Ensures that all plant & equipment has been fully safety checked and function tested prior to use.
  • Ensuring the Hygiene Facilities are fully operational, and signs and barriers are erected before work commences
  • Carry out daily safety checklist on the worksite and stop work if any aspect is unsatisfactory
  • Be actively involved and contribute to completing an onsite Task Based Risk Assessment which identifies additional risks or
    hazards involved in the work scope prior to work commencing.
  • Ensuring that they are working under the correct and valid permits and that the associated paper work is in place prior to works
    commencing.
  • Be actively involved in the onsite daily toolbox talk, confirm that he understands what the work scope involves and be aware if there are changes to the work or worksite
  • As a minimum do not start work until satisfied all of the above is in place
