The STCW Advanced Fire Fighting training course forms part of the training required for deck and engineering officers who wish to qualify for a certificate of competency and crew who are designated to control fire fighting operations.

This course builds upon the basic skills learnt whilst undergoing the STCW-95 Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting course with a large emphasis on “Command and Control”. During this highly practical course you will be put through your paces and will be assessed on your ability to control fire fighting operations.

Advanced Fire Fighting course content

• Elements of combustion
• Fire classification and extinguishing agents
• Shipboard fire fighting organisation
• Command and Control
• The effect of water on ships stability
• Casualty evacuation methods
• Liaison with shore based fire fighting organisations
• Compiling fire reports
• Control and training of fire parties
• First aid fire fighting equipment
• Fire fighting techniques
• Fixed systems and detection equipment
• Legislation regarding merchant shipping and vessels

Although not recommended for inexperienced seafarers, those who have not undertaken training in accordance with the above may undergo combined training covering the requirements for certificates in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting as well as Advanced Fire Fighting.

Certificate Of Proficiency In Advanced Fire Fighting meeting the requirements laid down in:
Regulation VI/3, paragraph 1 and Section A-VI/3, paragraphs 1 to 4 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended

Entry Requirements

Those undertaking this training must have completed Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (Section A-VI/1-2 of the STCW Code) or similar training acceptable to the MCA.
