£700 GBP

Course Type:
Fire Prevention and Firefighting (Basic)
Training School:
Warsash Maritime School
Location:
Warsash, Southampton, United Kingdom
Duration:
3 days
Language:
English

This course is part of the mandatory basic safety training for all seafarers with designated safety duties. It deals with the precautions needed to minimise the risk of fires, how fires are caused and how to extinguish them.

There is plenty of practical training, with a focus on using fire fighting equipment and breathing apparatus to extinguish various types and sizes of fires including casualty rescue in smoke filled enclosed spaces. Our multi-storey steel fire unit, fitted with simulated shipboard compartments, is used for live fire training.

NOTE: Those undergoing fire fighting training are required to complete and sign a confidential medical declaration to make us aware of any health problems, disabilities or injuries we may need to consider while you’re attending this physically demanding course. It is therefore essential you feel healthy and are physically fit to undertake such training.

What you'll learn

At the end of your training you should:

  • understand and be able to minimise the risk of fire on board,
  • know the on board equipment, procedures and personal safety requirements in fire situations, and
  • be able to fight and extinguish fires.

The course is also included in our STCW Basic Safety Training Week (https://maritime.solent.ac.uk/courses/stcw-safety-and-security/stcw-basic-safety-training-week).
