Course description

A Ballast Water Management course is a training program that teaches you how to manage the ballast water of a ship in accordance with international regulations and standards. Ballast water is the water that is taken on board or discharged by a ship to maintain its stability, trim, and structural integrity. However, ballast water can also carry harmful aquatic organisms and pathogens that can cause negative impacts on the marine environment and human health. Therefore, IMO adopted the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments (BWM Convention). The BWM Convention aims to prevent, minimize, and ultimately eliminate the risks of introducing invasive species through ballast water and sediments.
