This fire prevention and firefighting training course is one of five courses that together make up the STCW Basic Safety Training Course - an essential qualification for anyone wishing to work on commercial ships.

Regulated by the MCA and confirms with MNTB guidelines, the fire prevention and firefighting course provides seafarers with the essential education and training in fire prevention and firefighting meeting the knowledge, understanding and proficiency (KUP) set out in the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended.

It includes the correct action to take in an emergency, perform firefighting operations using a range of equipment, wearing of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), working in smoke and casualty recovery.
The course is physically demanding so delegates must be well and fit enough to undertake several firefighting exercises that will include wearing of breathing apparatus.

Entry Requirements

Delegates should be clean shaven as the course includes the wearing of breathing apparatus. In addition, all delegates must complete the mandatory forms (STCW Delegate Registration Form and STCW Pre Course Medical Questionnaire), in the links provided in our joining instructions email and return them to MRS Training & Rescue no later than 16:00 on the day prior to the course commencing.

Delegates must also provide government issued photo identification on their day of training. This is a mandatory requirement and failure to provide this will prevent the delegate taking the training until verification can be made.
