The Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) course is a component module of several MCA Deck Officer training certifications. The course will cover the general principles of operation of an Electronic Chart System and the regulations for the operation and will include time spent on basic software learning the methods of setting up, updating, loading new charts and software. Two days will be spent learning the basic operation before moving on to passage planning and performing a series of tasks on the ship simulator to fully understand navigating using Electronic Charts.

Pre-requisite experience:
Basic knowledge of computers.

Training towards:
Officer of the Watch (Yachts less than 3000gt)
Chief Mate (Yachts less than 3000gt)
Master (Yachts less than 500gt/3000gt)
Examination and assessment:
Students will be continuously assessed and will have to complete all tasks successfully to be issued with certification. It is a condition that candidates have 100% attendance on the course. If a candidate does not undertake the required hours, he/she should successfully complete the exercises not attended before a certificate is issued.
