High Voltage Safety is a one week course comprised of classroom lectures, simulator based training, and hands-on training utilizing a GE Secos, 11kV Breaker that is interfaced with the TechSim 5000 Engineering Simulator. The HV breaker will interface seamlessly with the High Voltage generation system as found on the LNG ship model. Students will be exposed to the principles and safe working procedures of both High Voltage (1-15kV), and Low Voltage (<1kV) marine electrical equipment. Classroom lectures will ensure that students are exposed to the fundamentals of electrical systems, power generation, protective devices and systems to include earthing switches and temporary grounds. Practical exercises to develop High Voltage Lock Out Tag Out (HV LOTO) plans will be conducted utilizing the TechSim 5000 Engineering Simulator. Once proficient, a final practical assessment will be conducted utilizing the TechSim 5000 Engineering Simulator and the 11kV breaker. The assessment will incorporate all aspects of training including the proper use of PPE, live line tools, meters, proofing meters and a proper HV LOTO plan. This course is an immersive experience allowing the student to safely work on real, energized equipment while wearing the appropriate PPE and executing a correctly formatted HV LOTO Plan under the supervision of experienced instructors.
