It will be mandatory for all persons working on ships to provide documentary proof of having undertaken certain STCW courses within the previous five years which includes the Fire Prevention and Fire Firefighting training.

Prerequiste

Seafarers who have a certificate of proficency in fire prevention and fire fighting NB- certifictaes of proficency issued ubder the authority of other administrators will be acceptable or Seafareres who have six months or more sea service prior to 1st august 1998 and were exempt from basic safety courses.

There is no requiremnet to submit a self-declaration form for this ocurse, as the elements of training permitted to be carried out on board would not significantly reduce the time of the shore based programme.

Course Content

This is a practical based one day course involving the correct use of breathing apparatus for search & rescue operations incorporating the extinguishment of live fires, utilisng hoses, nozzles and extinguishers.

Learning Objectives:

  • Minimise risk of fire on board
  • Refresh skills in procedures, personal safety requirements and re-familiarise in ship board equipment
  • Refresh skills to fight and extinguish fire

Assessment Methods

Will be in the form of continual visual practical observation which will include oral questioning and written evidence.

Certification

Certificates will be awarded to all successfully completing the course.Course accredited by the Marine and Coastgaurd Agency MCA.

Note

Delegates undergoing firefighting training will be required to complete and sign a confidential medical declaration to make us aware of any health problems, disabilities or injuries that we may need to take into account whilst attending this phyiscally demanding course. It is therfore essentianl that delegates feel healthy and are physically fit to undertake such training.
