Trainee Underwriter (Marine and Transportation) – London – £40,000 – £45,000

I have an excellent new opportunity for an aspiring insurance professional that is interested in a career within Underwriting. I’m working with a reputable insurer that specialise in the marine and transportation market who are looking for an Assistant Underwriter to support a Portfolio Underwriter.

The role will be providing support to the regional team to drive the continued progress of the underwriting function. Working closely with the Portfolio Underwriter, the position involves underwriting accounts, developing strong relationships with brokers and members, and proactively generating and retaining business in line with underwriting guidelines.

The successful applicant must demonstrate solid technical knowledge across all of the companies insurance products, cover wordings, and clauses, as well as a good understanding of risk, liability, and negligence. Handling quotations, terms, and policies—and ensuring timely responses to enquiries and renewals are key parts of the role. The role will also involve collaboration with claims executives and senior underwriters in order to align strategies and monitor developments.

Applicants should have approximately 2 years’ experience within insurance underwriting or broking, ideally within the area of marine or transportation insurance. Studying towards DipCII qualification will be very advantageous too.
